Monday 7th June - bike ***** - Long two rivers, the Deben to the Orwell
including breakfast at the water ski jetty and coffee at Falkenham Church
– sunny periods and hot.
With the hot, sunny and still weather continuing we were keen to get out on
the bikes this morning, with breakfast packed we were down on Felixstowe
prom just after six. It was busier than yesterday with joggers, cyclists
and dog walkers as we biked to The Fludgers. Past conkerland to the beach
huts on the cliff across wireless green and down the windy path to the prom
and luckily it is much quieter up this end:) We were keen to see if the
host of poppies just past The Dip were are good as last year? There was a
nice covering of red set against the deep blue sky, just lovely, not as
many as last year yet but we are behind due to the cold weather! Out past
the golf course with a great display of sea cabbage on the beach reaching
Felixstowe Ferry, I never tire of taking pics here before setting off on
the Deben path and have it completely to ourselves:) Several birds flitting
about mainly reed bunting and pipets with noisy oyster catchers and a red
shank standing on a post! We have breakfast in the peace and quiet by the
water ski jetty now looking very sad as pats are now breaking off and
disappearing, it won’t be long before it’s gone all together! Rested we
continue along the river wall path not too bumpy; an access road has been
made into a farmer’s field and a large are boarded off, we think it is
for a pumping station to help irrigate the fields but are not sure? Then up
to visit ‘Emily’ at our favourite Falkenham church for a cuppa, banana
and nut bar enjoying the top scenery:) Taking mainly footpaths over to
Kirton with the potatoes, peas and wheat coming along nicely now, the coat
is now off as it is warming up! At Trimley we take the tree lined path back
to Felixstowe docks, Mag then goes home the Morrisons way while I carry
onto the Dock view point just in time to see the newly refurbished Harwich
foot ferry land and fill up with passengers, including several bikes,
perhaps we can take our bikes over, its only about 20 miles back to
Felixstowe if you can get over the Orwell Bridge? Back home along the prom
for a much-deserved cuppa having been out for 5 hours 40 minutes covering
20.25 miles! Then spent the rest of the afternoon doing exercises, having
lunch, reading and dozing, us pensioners know how to live!
PS - I was pleased to have another pic on ITV's About Anglia today, my
second of the month :)
